to moods of nature.com a web site that features more then 2500 pages of my favorite landscape, nature and wildlife photographs. This is one of three web sites that feature my photographs (also see www.scienceandart.ca and www.scienceandart.org). This site is differs from my previous web sites in that I am trying to send a message with my photography about the importance of preserving some of Canada's special places. In British columbia the government and lumber industry continues to cut old growth forest in some cases right down to the highway and beaches! In 2002 I visited Parkinson's Creek on Vancouver Island - a place my guide book said is a "must see". When I arrived I saw a clear cut forest with a sign in the parking lot that said "Clear cut habitat for sun loving animals". There were obscenities carved into the sign by other angry visitors. The ancient rainforests are some of the most beautiful and magnificent places on earth with trees 15 to 30 feet in diameter and ranging from 500 to 1000 years or more in age - once cut they will be gone forever.

I believe we all have to do more to preserve Canada's special places if we want our children to enjoy these special places in the future. One of the goals of this web site is to show visitors the beauty we have in Canada but also make you aware that some of these areas are disappearing if we don't stop it soon. I hope my photographs will encourage Canadians to get more involved in speaking out against clear cutting, fish farming, and the destruction of important wildlife habitat. I support a number of organizations that rehabilitate wild animals, and\or attempt to lobby government action into preserving our special places (e.g. CPAWS, Green peace, Pacific rainforest, Alberta Wildlife groups etc) - thankfully these organizations are making a difference - but the process is slow and many battles have been lost forever.

If this web site can help educate about some of the pressing problems and encourage folks to help, support or act in such a way to keep our country strong and beautiful then it will have served its purpose. The site also features nature photography products, workshops and tips on cameras and nature photography based on my 35 years plus experience. I hope you enjoy viewing some of my favorite images and find something of interest. If you have a question please contact me I would be happy to share my knowledge and opinions. Galleries are updated regularly with new photos posted every month in chronological order i.e. newest images are last.
